It was great to see Laugh host, Justin Moorhouse on BBC 1’s Pointless recently, partnering Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine.

Justin will be having a short break from Laugh Local at Chorlton Irish Club until September ~ & having a stint on Coronation Street (!!) ~ so in the meantime, we’re dead pleased that his good friend and stand-in MC for the evening will be actor, presenter, compère and stand-up, Trevor Lynch.

Trevor regularly hosts nights at The Comedy Store and has appeared in numerous television, theatre and film productions, including Ken Loache’s award-winning, Looking For Eric. Trevor’s probably most recognised as Coronation Street’s Patrick Tussell, the taxi-driver working for Steve McDonald (2002–2005). Trevor has even done a guest spot at Laugh Local recently so we’re looking forward to seeing him play host for the evening!

As always, we have a top line-up for this July Laugh Local will be George Ryegold, Simon Heaven, Jen Williams and Andrew Bird.

George Ryegold is the alter ego of performer Toby Williams ~ a surgeon moonlighting as a stand-up! George is a sleazy, stingy, gloomy, tweedy doctor, with an unhealthily casual approach to some of the workings of the human body. With all the characteristic grace and humility of a cornered wasp, George selflessly pits his formidable intellect against humanity’s ills and, if you’re very unlucky, lets slip a glimpse into the hidden pain of a tortured genius!

Andrew Bird wanted to be a comedian from the moment he watched the Young Ones on Comic Relief when he was eight years old. Since starting in stand up, he’s performed all over the world as well as doing regular TV warm ups for Have I Got News For You and Deal or No Deal. He’s also supported Lee Hurst and Rhod Gilbert on tour. Andrew boasts perfect timing, crisp delivery and spot-on observations. His comedy is derived from his lack of identity and it’s this everyman persona that provides his core appeal.

Simon Heaven is noted for his trademark cerebral one-liners and assured, warm affability. His observations are often uniquely placed, and executed with a professional, delightfully laid-back quirk. Simon is also a regular guest at New Stuff at The Comedy Store ~ his material was used extensively by the BBC in 2013 to promote the BBC New Comedy Award 2013.

Jen Williams is a regular Laugh Local ‘fan’ but this will be the first time she takes the stage at the Irish Club. Jen is an acclaimed film and theatre actor and started doing stand-up last year, wowing audiences at The Frog & Bucket. She recently won the Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best Performance in Salford Stuffers and has appeared in many TV shows, including Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Cops.

Doors open 6.30pm at Chorlton Irish Club for the bar and free pasty supper. Comedy starts at 8pm and finishes around 11pm. Bar and music till late.

Tickets for our July Laugh Local are £10 in advance are are available from Pearse McDaid at Chorlton Irish Club: 0161 881 2898 or online here: https://www.ticketline.co.uk/order/

May’s Laugh Local was simply fantastic ~ the Irish Club was rocking with laughter from start to finish. Justin Moorhouse and his guests, Vikki Stone, Danny McLoughlin, Steve Bugeja and Boothby Graffoe were all superb! To cap it all off, we were treated to a brilliant surprise set from none other than John Bishop!

This month is no exception in terms of top class acts, when Justin will have Tim Clark, Seymour Mace and Dan Nightingale as his guests.

Tim Clark has one of the most recognisable faces in British comedy – and not just because he is very tall, pale and completely bald. He has been working for nearly 20 years honing his craft as a stand-up, a much-in-demand compère and a regular corporate host. A sports fan, Tim has co-hosted Channel 4's Under The Moon, and is a regular face for Channel 5’s sports coverage. He’s also a successful writer and actor as well!

Although probably best known for his regular appearances with Johnny Vegas in the BBC’s Ideal, Seymour Mace is a stand-up performer of great renown. Having worked around the world in street theatre, Seymour also trained as a circus clown before finally taking the plunge into stand-up. With these skills, he was soon headlining at all the major clubs in the UK and is a former City Life Comedian of the Year. His stage show is an off-the-wall performance of surreal observations!

Widely regarded as one of the hottest new comic talents on the circuit, Dan Nightingale has the fresh-faced demeanour of a boy band member but with the quick-witted mind of an hilariously sleazy, high-octane raconteur. Never afraid to come off script, he can engage any audience and settle the rowdiest of crowds until he has them in the palm of his hand. Once there, Dan can hit them with his killer material.

Doors open at 6.30pm for bar/pasty supper. Comedy kicks off at 8pm. Music and bar till late.

Tickets for Laugh Local are £10 and available online here: https://www.ticketline.co.uk/order/tickets/13294314/bop-local-presents-laugh-local-chorlton-irish-club-2014-06-06-18-30-00
or call Pearse at Chorlton Irish Club on: 0161 881 2898 to secure tickets. (They will be £12 on the door on the night).
