On Friday 10th October, Bop Local Productions are thrilled to be staging the 2nd 4 Poets And A Pasty event at Chorlton Irish Club, Manchester. It will be a light-hearted evening of spoken word ~ plus a pasties and music! The 4 poets will be Tony Walsh, Louise Fazackerley, Marvin Cheeseman and Sarah L Dixon ~ all introduced on stage by actor/director, Graeme Hawley.

As well as being a performer in her own right, Sarah L Dixon runs the regular Quiet Compère events throughout Greater Manchester and is presently touring the North with a ten poet, ten minute format. Sarah’s poetry ranges from magical realism to poems about her childhood ~ and her experiences from 17 years working in the NHS often leak into her work too! As performance poet, Gerry Potter puts it, ‘Sarah’s sharp incisive, witty poetics coupled with a gentle sense of natural language, leave you with a great big smile on your face.’

Marvin Cheeseman is as much a stand-up comedian, as a perfomance poet. His poems have been featured on TV and radio and his published work includes Full Metal Jacket Potato; a boxed set of limericks entitled Making Prawn Sandwiches for Roy Keane and recently, We Hate it When Our Ex-Lodgers Become Successful. Writer Rob Cochrane sums Marvin up: ‘Like Noel Coward, he has a talent to amuse by raising a knowing smile that lingers long in the mind. Wit and warmth. What more could you wish for?’

Winner of the BBC Radio 3 Verb New Voices Award, Louise Fazackerley has given up her day job to concentrate on being a full-time performance poet. The Verb New Voices is part of a programme of activities from the BBC to support and develop new talent in the arts.Louisetells stories of hope, hurt and humour ~ celebrating the rain, party-ants, parks, parenting and pigeons! As the North-West representative for the Winning Words poetry project, Louise has her work displayed at the Olympic Park and Wigan Wallgate train station.

Longfella is the professional name for ‘the towering wildfire that is Tony Walsh’ ~ one of the UK’s most renowned performance poets and a respected writer, workshop leader and community organiser. Tony has performed everywhere from The Glastonbury Festival to The Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw, Poland! This poetry has been published on both sides of the Atlantic as well as displayed with an LS Lowry image at both Tate Modern and The British Museum as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund “Best of British” Exhibition. In 2013,Tony launched his debut full collection of poems, Sex & Love & Rock&Roll, published by Burning Eye Books.

The compere for 4 Poets And A Pasty will be actor, Graeme Hawley who recently starred in ITV's Love & Marriage, as well as BBC 1's In With The Flynns, but is probably best known as Coronation Street's infamous character, John Stape!

Doors open at 7.30pm for the bar and free pasty supper ~ poetry starts at 8.30pm. There will be music after the performances and the bar will stay open till late.

Laugh Local, Vox Local & Bop Local!!

image

After a fantastic, totally rammed, Laugh Local at Chorlton Irish Club earlier this month, we’re back again this Friday 3rd October. Fresh from his Coronation Street stint, host Justin Moorhouse will be introducing Jim Tavare, Rob Rouse, Lost Voice Guy and Nathan Hudson on stage.

Jim Tavare is an internationally acclaimed actor and comedian with a highly distinguished career. Jim co-wrote and starred in ITV’s The Sketch Show, which won a BAFTA and was syndicated worldwide. Following three appearances on The Royal Variety Performance, Jim has performed at several private functions for the Royal Family and is renowned for being Prince Charles’ favourite comedian. His major film debut came when he played Tom the Innkeeper in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Former geography teacher Rob Rouse is natural performer with many voices in his head and, when unleashed, his shows become more like a hysterically funny play than one man telling very funny tales. TV regular appearances include 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Spoons, The Friday Night Project and Grown-Ups. Rob is also a regular stand-in presenter for Manchester’s XFM breakfast & drive-time shows. Rob when down a storm when he performed at Laugh Local early in 2013, so we’re glad he’s back!

Following appearances at Newcastle comedy clubs, Lee Ridley aka Lost Voice Guy recently made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe and was offered a support for Ross Noble. The 31-year-old from County Durham ~ who was born with cerebral palsy ~ uses a voice synthesiser on stage as part of his act. He has won over audiences with cutting observations about his own and other disabilities as well as more mainstream topics like politics and the media.

The open spot for October’s Laugh Local comes from Nathan Hudson.

Doors open 7pm for bar/free pasty supper. Show starts 8.30pm. Music and bar till late.

Tickets are £10 in advance via the Irish Club: 0161 881 2898 or online at boplocal.com:
